A new report is putting a precise number on world's Muslim population.
The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life says it's 1.57 billion, meaning nearly a quarter of the world's population practices Islam.
The research also show more than 60 percent of Muslims live in Asia.
The project includes findings that may seem surprising. It shows, for example, that Germany has more Muslims than Lebanon; and that Ethiopia has nearly as many Muslims as Afghanistan.
An analyst says the report contradicts the notion that "Muslims are Arabs and Arabs are Muslims."
Islam is the world's second largest religion behind Christianity.
