COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 8, 2014) - After making what was easily his longest relief outing of his career while helping the Pack claim a hard-fought 9-8 extra-inning win over 13th-ranked and conference-leading Colorado Mesa University on Sunday, Colorado State University-Pueblo senior pitcher Dillon Given (Salinas, Calif.) has been named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week.
The announcement was made Tuesday and comes after Given threw 7 2/3 innings of 2-run ball in Sunday's 11-inning victory. Entering in the fourth inning, Given helped the Pack stay in and eventually win the game as he recorded a career-high six strikeouts without walking anyone while posting a 2.35 ERA for the day and earning the pitching win, his first of the season.
The stint was just his sixth appearance of the season but easily surpassed his former career-long relief effort of three innings.
The ThunderWolves split the weekend series with the Mavericks, claiming both of their wins in walk-off fashion in the extra innings.
Given is the third Pack pitcher this season to earn the conference's weekly honor joining Lonny Schoon (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jesse Bristow (Jr., Heber, Utah), who picked up the accolades on Feb. 11 and Mar. 25, respectively.
The ThunderWolves, who are 17-16 overall and 13-9 in RMAC play are on the road this weekend playing at 4-game set at Colorado Mines, scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
