Girls were hurt trying to break up fight at bus stop

Three girls were hurt trying to stop a fight that broke out this morning at a school bus stop between two of their classmates and a woman in the community. The students attend the Galileo School of Math and Science in Colorado Springs School District 11 and were waiting for the bus near E. San Miguel St. and Delaware Dr. when apparently two boys and the woman began fighting.

When the bus arrived, the driver quickly gathered all of the students onboard and drove them out of the area. D11 spokeswoman Devra Ashby says it's unclear who started it the fight, but says the driver's quick thinking kept things from getting worse.

"So when he found out what was happening he took the students to the next location where he had access to a school and to other people if he needed to," Ashby said.

The girls were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries and Ashby says one of them was even able to return to class later in the day. The boys have both been charged with assault.

The woman reportedly lives in the area. However, her role in the altercation remains unclear.
