TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords received more than $280,000 in campaign contributions between April 1 and June 30 even as she remained out of the public eye while recovering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Documents filed with the Federal Election Commission show the Arizona Democrat had more than $787,000 in the bank at the end of June to fund a 2012 re-election campaign. Giffords won a third two-year congressional term last November.
She was shot on Jan. 8 as she met with constituents at a Tucson grocery store and has been in rehabilitation. Six people were killed, and Giffords and 12 others wounded.
Giffords' political director Jessica Schultz said Friday the congresswoman's friends and colleagues have been making sure she has the resources so she can return to work.
