Gessler suggests review of officials salaries

DENVER (AP)- Colorado secretary of State Scott Gessler says lawmakers should consider a state commission to review the salaries of state elected officials.
Gessler drew fire after he announced plans to work part-time for his old law firm, which is prominent in the field elections law. He now oversees state elections as secretary of state.
Gessler told lawmakers today that that there is no conflict of interest, but the state underpays its elected officials. His current job pays $68,500 a year.
Gessler also told lawmakers he plans to keep $3.5 million that his predecessor had offered to state lawmakers to help balance the budget. The money comes from filing fees businesses paid to his office and he believes it should be spent on them.
