Gas prices jump in Pueblo

If you're heading to the State Fair in Pueblo, you better have some cash. You'll need that before you ever get through the gate.

According to AAA, gas prices across the country are dropping. In Pueblo, there's been a spike. The average price of regular unleaded in Pueblo today is $2.75. That's up 3 cents from yesterday. That's 9 cents more a gallon than in Colorado Springs.

We spoke to some folks at the State Fair, to get their opinion of gas prices jumping. Tracy Gallegos lives in Pueblo. She says, "Holy cow, to be nice." She and her husband says they've noticed a 10 cent jump in gas prices in Pueblo in the last couple of days. "I think it's ridiculous. I don't think just because something is going on they should raise prices like that," says Gallegos.

We found gas around town for about $2.79. According to our gas tracker, that's about 20 cents more than gas prices at most places we found in Colorado Springs.

If you're staying overnight, good luck finding a hotel room in Pueblo this weekend. Most rooms are booked. If you do, we're told rooms are going for up to $40 more than normal.

Most people we spoke with, expected to pay a little more. Tiffany Weber brought her daughter from Holyoke, Colorado. She says, "Absolutely worth it. We come down every year to enjoy the state fair".

They gave us a tip to pass along at the Marriott in Pueblo. If you know you'll be in Pueblo for the State Fair next year, you can book your room now. That could save you money.

AAA says the good news about gas prices is that it should drop locally again after labor day. For the best gas prices around, just go to our website newsfirst5.com and click on gas tracker. It is in the "Traffic" section.
