Officers in Canon City say there are several reports of counterfeit $20 bills being circulated in the area.
According to a release from the police department, one bill was recovered at a local bank. It was turned in as a deposit from a yard sale.
Here's more information for you from the police department's release:
At least three other bills were recovered from a fast food restaurant.
In all cases, the bill was a poor quality photo copy, undersize and on soft, standard quality bond paper. All of the bills recovered so far have the same serial number, EB474884773G
Police are asking citizens to closely examine bills, especially $20 and larger bills, that they receive and, if they have concerns, try to recall the circumstances under which they obtained the bill and report this to police. Your local bank can assist in determining if a bill is counterfeit. If you do receive a counterfeit bill, please call the police department at once.
