Funeral today for CSPD officer, police expect road delays during procession

A funeral is being held today for a Colorado Springs police officer who died after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle.

The public service for Matthew Tyner will be at 2 PM at New Life Church.

After the funeral is a procession through the city that CSPD says will likely cause traffic delays.

The procession is expected to start between 3:30 and 4 PM this afternoon. Southbound I-25 lanes will be blocked from Interquest Parkway to Uintah St.; northbound lanes will remain open. The procession will exit at Uintah and go east to Nevada Ave; it will then head south, passing City Hall and the Police Operations Center.

Tyner was conducting traffic enforcement at the time of the crash Tuesday afternoon. The collision is under investigation.

He joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1999 and served as a patrol officer, neighborhood resource officer and training academy instructor before becoming part of the motorcycle unit.
