LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - A funeral and a procession through Lakewood and Englewood are being held for a Lakewood policeman who was mistakenly shot and killed by a fellow officer.
The services are being held Thursday for Lakewood police officer James Davies. Davies was in a backyard investigating reports of gunfire and was in full uniform when another officer behind a fence shot him on Friday.
Police say 37-year-old Joe Ruiz is accused of firing gun shots that led to the police shooting.
Officers were investigating reports of a prowler in the neighborhood when they heard the gunfire. Police then set up a perimeter around Ruiz's house as they prepared to search the place.
