The mother and two children found murdered in their Cañon City home last weekend were laid to rest Saturday. Mandy Folsom, 35, and two of her children -- Marissa, 9 and Mason, 5 -- were remembered in a private funeral and graveside service in Salida Saturday morning. Folsom grew up in Salida and went to high school in Cotopaxi.
The three were found dead Sunday night in their home on Phay Avenue after Folsom's 15-year-old daughter ran from the home and told a neighbor that she had been sexually assaulted. When officers arrived, they found the bodies of Folsom and the two children. Jaacob Vanwinkle, 31, was found asleep in the home and was arrested without incident. He remains jailed without bond.
According to an obituary posted in The Mountain Mail newspaper in Salida, the private service was held at 10:00 Saturday morning at Salida First Presbyterian Church with a graveside service to follow at Fairview Cemetery. The three are survived by numerous family members in Cañon City, Salida, and Pueblo.
