Fundraising delays closure at Rock Ledge Ranch for now

A living history farm that doesn't want to become history itself.

Rock Ledge Ranch, near Garden of the Gods, faced closing after major cuts in the city's budget.  So far, the ranch's manager says they've raised about $40,000. It's enough to keep the doors open beyond April 1 when the city funding runs out.  They still need another $44,000 to stay open through Dec. but that will deplete their savings.  They hope even more money will come in as their summer events and programs go on.

"We're excited about doing the programs this summer and then we'll see what happens," said Andy Morris, ranch manager.

"People step up here," said Councilman Sean Paige.  "We have incredible rates of volunteerism and philanthropy and it's showing."

The ranch relies on a lot of volunteers and now more than ever the kindness of others.

On May 22, the ranch will hold a benefit concert and auction.
