A man was fatally shot by Colorado Springs Police just before noon on Friday in Security-Widefield.
According to police, the man was wanted on multiple felony charges and officers began tailing him in Colorado Springs. They followed the suspect to the 7-Eleven on Widefield Boulevard and tried to stop him in the parking lot, attempting to use their cars to trap him. The suspect then rammed at least one patrol car.
"I was right there by the front doors there the first thing we heard was the boom," described Dave McNaar, an employee at the 7-Eleven store. "We heard the boom, I got up, I started seeing a little smoke and that's when I saw the red car coming up and then the other truck went in front of it and then that's when they hit and then the gentleman got out and that's when gunfire started everywhere, they started shooting."
Investigators say multiple officers opened fire on the suspect because he had a gun.
"Unfortunately officers did have to shoot the suspect," explained Lt. Jeff Kramer of the El Paso County Sheriff's Department. "There was no shots fired by the suspect, but he did ram police cars and was armed."
The El Paso County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's office are heading the investigation because the shooting took place outside of Colorado Springs.
The identity of the suspect who was killed and information about what felonies he was wanted for is not being released until the investigation is completed.
