Ft. Carson soldiers to get wildland fire training

More than 1,000 Soldiers from Fort Carson are receiving introductory wildland fire fighting training from the National Interagency Fire Center pre-mobilization team in preparation for possible support later this summer.

Soldiers from 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division's "Raider Brigade"  and another brigade task force from 3rd BCT, 4th Inf. Div. "Iron Brigade" are working to get "Red Card" certified, enabling them to work in wildland fire areas.

If fire conditions warrant and the NIFC requests assistance through the Department of Defense, mobilized units will receive additional training and personal protective equipment, and deploy to an active fire anywhere in the United States.

This introductory training will allow quicker response times when fire activity becomes extreme if and when Fort Carson and 4th Inf. Div. is called into action.
