The Department of Defense reports that the bodies of Army Corporal Justin Clouse, and Army Private Aaron Toppen from the 4th Brigade Combat Team on Fort Carson, along with Army Specialist Justin Helton, have been returned to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

The investigation is underway tonight in to how they died. U.S. troops on the ground in Southeastern Afghanistan encountered Taliban forces, and called in the airstrike for support. Right now, the

Pentagon is investigating if an A-10 Warthog, B-1 Bomber, or Army helicopter armed with missiles fired on the U.S. troops. They are also investigating other possibilities, such as aircraft malfunction, pilot error or miscommunication between troops on the ground and those in the aircraft.

The incident marked the deadliest day for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since a helicopter crash back in December.
