Friends share memories of woman murdered in Colorado Springs

Friends and family of Angelina Sicola, 20, are trying to move forward after the young college student was found murdered in a Colorado Springs apartment.

Colorado Springs Police were called to the Featherstone Apartments on the 3800-block of Half Turn Road just after noon on Thursday. Officers found Sicola strangled to death in a third-floor apartment, so far no arrests have been made.

Sicola was a communications major at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and worked at the US Taekwondo Center in Monument. She was close to her fellow members of the taekwondo community and is said to have found a second family at the center.

"It was of course a shock for everyone involved and certainly for me knowing what a kind person and what a hard working individual she was," Master Jay Lee said of Sicola's murder.

Master Lee knew Sicola for six-years as she worked and trained at the center. He said everyone who worked with her had been shaken by the loss of the young woman who impacted the lives of so many.

"Everybody who was around her knew that her life was so promising, that she was wise beyond her years, she was very mature and well liked by all those around her," Lee described.

Lee said he, his staff and Sicola's family are struggling to make sense out of the tragedy. But, they are trying to move forward in the way Angelina would want, but staying positive and focusing on good memories.

"I think that a lot of people would agree with me that the biggest memory people have of Angelina is her smile," Lee explained. "She was always positive, smiling, no matter the circumstances, she was a positive person."

Detectives are actively investigating Sicola's murder, anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719.444.7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719.634.STOP.
