On Saturday morning a man was seen driving a tractor near a lake in the Wilson Lakes subdivision in Florissant. A short time later a neighbor found him dead.
Investigators with the Teller County Sheriff's Office aren't talking, but friends and family tell us the man committed suicide. They tell us he was the same man deputies said they were investigating surrounding an alleged string of sexual assaults over the past two years with an underage girl.
We spoke to his mother in law. She still can't believe it. "He (suicide victim) was the greatest guy in the world without a doubt. He had the biggest heart. He'd do anything for anybody." she says.
A friend we spoke to says she's still in shock, and can't believe the allegations. "Kids need to act their age and not try to sound off to others make things up. Because this is what happens." she says.
When we spoke to Teller County Sheriff Mike Ensminger on Friday, he said his department was close to making an arrest. "We'll process the evidence. Again, we feel really good about the evidence." he explained, "Our next step will be obtaining arrest warrants for the suspect involved in this case."
Friends tell us the suicide victim was supposed to speak to investigators on Monday, but the pressure became too much and he eventually ended his own life. "Innocent until proven guilty. What happened to that rule?" asked his friend, "He hasn't had a chance to make his statement now he can't."
We do have the name of the suicide victim. But at the request of the Teller County Sheriff's Office we are not releasing it or the identities of the people we interviewed in order to protect the identity of the alleged sex assault victim.
