A fight between two brothers ended in tragedy Sunday morning after one of them died and the other was put jail accused of murder. It happened at around 12:30 a.m. at a home on Holiday Hills Drive in the small town of Howard, in western Fremont County.
Sheriff's deputies say Joshua McBride, 32, was fighting with his brother Daniel, 34. Joshua's girlfriend tried to intervene and got hurt in the scuffle. Some time afterward deputies say McBride shot his brother in the abdomen with a 12 gauge shotgun.
"It's a, you know, tragic event," said Cpt. Don Pinover of the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. "Obviously the girlfriend was very emotional and upset, and so was the brother, the shooter."
Joshua's girlfriend called 911 and when deputies arrived, they found Daniel's body in a bedroom.
Pinover said investigators suspect McBride had been drinking, but he didn't say how much.
"He was cooperative at the scene, he was also interviewed after he was transported to the detention center here but I can't comment on any statements that he made about it," Pinover said.
Cecil and Marsha Borden live across the street. The had spent the weekend out of town and just learned of the shooting Sunday afternoon. Cecil couldn't believe it.
"Josh has always been real mild-mannered, you know, he didn't seem real excitable to me," he said.
Cecil says Josh bought the home last year and had been living there with his girlfriend. He said Daniel moved in earlier this summer. Josh worked for a drilling company in Howard.
"Oh, I'm just absolutely dumbfounded," Cecil said. "I just, I would never, ever thought Josh would've done something like that."
McBride was taken to St. Thomas Moore Hospital with an injured shoulder before being booked into the Fremont County Jail on charge of Second Degree Murder. Bail was set at $30,000.
