Freedom Awards Dinner

The African American Voice Freedom Awards Dinner will recognize members of the community Friday evening at the Best Western Hotel in Colorado Springs. The newspaper is honoring four individuals and two organizations for their efforts to improve the community in the past year.

State Senator Morgan Carroll (D) Aurora and State Representative Rhonda Fields (D) Aurora are both being honored with the Wilma Webb Co-Legislator of the Year awards. Leonard Andrews is being honored with the John Holley Community Service Award, and Edward Tyler with the Penfield Tat II Trailblazer Award.

The non-profit marriage and family therapy group Centro De la Famlia is being recognized with the Cesar Chavez Award and the group People for Justice will be receiving the African American Voice Award.

This marks the 20th year that the newspaper has held the awards ceremony. The African American Voice is published monthly by James Tucker and distributed in Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Denver.
