COLORADO SPRINGS - On June 26, Frank and Kaye Peterson will join the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Hall of Fame, the first class of inductees since 2000, joining the legacies of Spencer Penrose, William Thayer Tutt, Louis Unser, Bobby Unser, Al Rogers, Jim Reilly and Nick Sanborn, in recognition of their significant contributions to The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
The Petersons began dating while attending Alameda High School in Lakewood, Colorado, where Frank ran track and played basketball and Kaye was a cheerleader. Shortly after they began dating, Frank and Kaye attended their first race in 1955 and haven't missed an event since, making this year's 92nd Running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb their 60th at the famed Race to the Clouds.
The Peterson's contributions to the Race to the Clouds over the past six decades are unparalleled.
Throughout their time as competitors they fielded entries in three different divisions and achieved victory when Frank won the Stock Car Championship in 1970. In 1988 and 1989 Frank and their two sons Brett and Rob raced in the Hill Climb, marking the only time a father and his two sons have competed in the same race.
In addition to their own racing accomplishments, Frank and Kaye have assisted in building the legacies of fellow Hill Climb greats including the likes of Louie Unser, Frank Sanborn and Paul Dallenbach through vehicles they owned and prepared. After their days of competition ended Frank and Kaye continued to give back to the race as long-time race officials, generous benefactors of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Historical Association, and respected ambassadors for the Race to the Clouds.
The Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 26, at the Penrose Heritage Museum and the brand-new Pikes Peak Hill Climb Experience during Media Day ceremonies from 2:00-4:00 p.m..
