Fountain city councilmembers had full intention of putting an ordinance in place Tuesday night to regulate medical marijuana dispensaries. What they couldn't agree on is how far away a dispensary should be from a school or day care. In the end, they were not able to pass any ordinance.

Fountain has been working on an ordinance for months. Tuesday night, people from all sides of the issue filled council chambers to take turns voicing their opinions.

Several rounds of votes has put the ordinance on the shelf for two more weeks. The distance debate that caused the impasse was between 500 and 1,000 feet, and neither option could drum up enough votes to pass.

Many councilmembers and several community members expressed their frustration with not having a law in place to regulate dispensaries.
