Fountain Police Department Gains Two K-9 Officers

The Fountain Police Department now has two new officers to help put the bad guys behind bars.

K-9 units Amp and Prime hit the streets after graduating from training on Thursday morning. The dogs and their handlers underwent two months of intensive training and are now dual certified in patrol and narcotics detection.

The pups have quite a legacy to uphold. The department's last K-9 landed a major drug bust days before retiring.

"Agents were called out they tore apart the entire dash," says Officer Sean Hartley. "Up by the engine block was about a quarter of a million dollars worth of methamphetamine that would have never been found without the dog."

Both dogs will be working full time for the department. K-9 Amp is a one and half year old German Shepherd and responds to commands in German. K-9 Prime prefers Dutch.
