Fountain Creek improvement plans announced

City leaders are unveiling plans to revitalize Fountain Creek in Pueblo. The city planning department has a 30-year master plan to improve the Fountain Creek corridor from 8th St., south to the Arkansas River confluence.

The city wants to improve water quality, reduce the flooding risk and add trails and more access points. "A big thing is to make it where it's easy to access the creek in a safe way, where it isn't now, because the dikes that were built to protect it are a huge barrier," said Glenn Ballantyne, public facilitator for Kreativo--and spokesperson for the project.

As part of the plan, the city will also improve street lighting and refurbish some old buildings on 4th street. One of their goals is to attract business and improve the east side's quality of life.
