This morning, Fort Carson welcomes home 40 soldiers from the 4th Brigade Combat Team. They are returning after a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan.
Family members were on hand, for the "torch party", when the soldiers arrived around 6 a.m. Wednesday. The rest of the 3,500-soldier brigade will start arriving in staggered groups in a couple weeks.
Fort Carson spokeswoman Brandy Gill said earlier that this is the post's largest homecoming since the 2nd Brigade Combat Team returned from Iraq last summer.
At least 43 members of the 4th Brigade died since their tour began. Most of the brigade was stationed in a four-province swath of Afghanistan's eastern border with Pakistan.
