The Department of Defense says a soldier based at Fort Carson has been killed in Afghanistan after
insurgents attacked his unit. The department said 24-year-old 1st Lt. Tyler E. Parten of Jonesboro, Ark., was killed Thursday in Konar province after being wounded when insurgents attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.
KAIT-TV is reporting that Parten is from Jonesboro in northeast Arkansas. Parten's mother told the television station that her son graduated from West Point and that she is very proud of him. Parten was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.
