Fort Carson has preferred charges against Sgt. Montrell Mayo, a unit supply specialist assigned to the 759th Military Police Battalion, for the alleged murder of Cpl. Kimberly Walker, who was found dead in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs in February.

Cpl. Walker was assigned to the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade based out of Fort Riley, Kan.

Sgt. Mayo has been charged with two specifications of murder under Article 118 and is being placed under pre-trial confinement at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

The accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

A murder charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, forfeitures of all pay and allowances, and a dismissal for officers or dishonorable discharge for the enlisted.
