FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - Fort Carson is on a heightened security alert after the death of Osama bin Laden, and officials say visitors and others entering the post are encountering delays at some gates. Post spokeswoman Dee McNutt declined to comment Monday on specific steps the post has taken. She says Fort Carson is "being very vigilant at the gates right now."

McNutt says news of bin Laden's death boosted morale on Fort Carson, which has deployed thousands of soldiers to Afghanistan and Iraq since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Fort Carson says a total of 321 soldiers from the post have died in the two wars, including some noncombat deaths.
