Former Loveland teacher accused of sex crimes against teen

LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) - Loveland police have issued an arrest warrant for a former Thompson School District teacher accused of sex crimes against a student.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports ( ) Gawain Jay Roberts of Fort Collins is charged with sexual exploitation of a child and attempted sexual assault by someone in a position of trust.

Before recently quitting, he had taught in a program based at Ferguson High School in Loveland for students who weren't successful in a traditional school setting. A 16-year-old girl told school administrators last month that her teacher had taken inappropriate pictures of her.

Roberts passed a background check before the district hired him in 2006. He also had taught at Bill Reed Middle School.

He has an unlisted phone number and couldn't be reached for comment Friday.
