Former CU football player shot and killed

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Police say a former San Diego-area high school football star who went on to play linebacker for the University of Colorado has been shot and killed.
Police Capt. Leonard Mata said 22-year-old Justin Nonu was killed outside a house in Oceanside on Saturday.
Mata tells the San Diego Union-Tribune that a man fired on Mata and four others who stood in a driveway, then fled on foot. One other man had minor injuries. Police offered no word of any arrests, suspects or possible motives.
Nonu was a star linebacker for Oceanside High School in 2004 and 2005, when the Union Tribune named him the San Diego area's Defensive Player of the Year.
He accepted a scholarship to play for Colorado, but left the team in 2007 because of chronic back problems.
