Former Colorado Springs Director of Finance and Administrative Services Terri Velasquez has made a claim against the City of Colorado Springs for $1 million, plus court and attorney fees.

Velasquez was fired from the City last month and claims she was wrongfully terminated. In a letter sent by her attorney, Velasquez claims she was threatened after exposing financial and ethical violations.

Velasquez's lawyer also says she believes she was targeted because she is a "strong female and did not fit the stereotype of a weak and compliant female."

A spokesperson for the City tells News 5 the City is reviewing the lawsuit and will not comment at this time. The City has hired a Denver law firm to investigate the allegations made by Velasquez. That investigation is underway.
