A former Canon City High School wrestler turned teacher and coach is facing charges of sexually assaulting a student.
Broomfield Police say Travis Masse had an inappropriate relationship with a student at Broomfield High School.
Masse is no longer a teacher there. Police say the incident happened during the 2008-2009 school year while Masse was a teacher and a wrestling coach.
Masse was arrested on Tuesday and taken to the Broomfield Detention Center.
The Broomfield District Attorney has charged him with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child/pattern of abuse.
The Denver Post has confirmed that Masse was named Coach of the Year in 2009 and Broomfield High School won the state 4A title that year. The Post also confirmed that Masse is from Canon City and wrestled for Canon City High School.
Masse will appear in court on June 17.
