Forest service to beef up fire prevention patrols

The U.S. Forest Service plans to increase fire prevention patrols during the busy 4th of July holiday. "The Fourth of July holiday weekend is the peak risk for human caused fires as visitors flood into outdoor recreation areas. U.S. Forest Service officials urge all visitors to the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands to leave their fireworks at home. Possessing fireworks on U.S. Forest Service lands is always prohibited," said Ralph Bellah, Fire Prevention Specialist.

Rangers will strictly enforce the no fireworks law. Violators could receive a $5,000 fine and or six months in jail.
