There is a growing number of places to buy specialty foods in our area, but true foodies want more than good ingredients. A lot of people want to sharpen chef-like skills in the kitchen and they are getting instruction in the kitchens of real chefs. Chef Amy Pontius of Garden of the Gods Gourmet explains, It's basically food curious people. There's this absolute curiosity around how this delicious food gets to the plate and it's usually people that really enjoy food."

Classes taught by Pontius regularly see out. Many in a recent class tell of cooking for years, but still want to take classes. Student Sandy Perry says, "You can always learn something." Another student, Chris Straka adds, "We all fall into habits of what we do at home and how we learned to cook something."

Foodies like new flavors and sometimes all that's required is a twist or new technique to take the ordinary and changing it up. "Take it one step further" and it is not that difficult says Pontius, "It's taking it and kind of demystifying it."
