The City's Meadows Park Community Center will open a satellite location in Stratmoor Hills at 2027 B Street in Colorado Springs.
A food pantry will be the predominant service offered at this location initially, along with public meeting space and rental opportunities for private functions. Future offerings will include nutrition and parenting classes, special events, and field trips. All of these activities will be coordinated through Meadows Park Community Center.
It is estimated that there is 40 percent unemployment in the Stratmoor Hills neighborhood, and 40 percent of the local residents do not have their own means of transportation. The only local food source is two nearby convenient stores.
The food pantry will be run by volunteer groups under the guidance of City staff, and all food will be donated through Westside Cares, local churches and other food sources. Select services offered at Meadows Park Community Center, 4 miles north, will be introduced to Stratmoor Hills Community Center.
A dedication of the new Stratmoor Hills Community Center will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27.
