Flu spikes in Pueblo

Frustration for those fighting the flu in Pueblo as many are not getting the vaccine.

"There's a lot of people that come in and say, I don't want the flu shot because it gives me the flu. Well it doesn't," said owner of, The Prescription Shop, Jim Sajbel.

The Pueblo City-County Health Department reports that 30-people have been hospitalized didn't get the vaccine and now stand at risk for pneumonia. However some are taking matters into their own hands.

"Some nursing homes and care centers are actually on lockdown this week. They don't want anyone else in those facilities picking up the flu," said Sajbel.

And for those that plan to hold off on the shot altogether there are some things you can do to avoid getting sick.

"Wash your hands. Keep your hands clean. And then if you know someone has the flu, stay away from them. But you really should be getting that shot," said Sajbel.

The flu season generally kicks off around January meaning everyone should be taking precautions and trying to stay as healthy as possible.
