Florence inmates get more time for murder

DENVER (AP) - Four inmates convicted in the beating death of another inmate at a federal prison in Florence will serve additional terms of 25 to 40 years.

The sentences were handed down Thursday in Denver federal court.

The four were convicted in June of conspiring to murder Pablo Zuniga-Garcia. Authorities say he was beaten with padlocks attached to belts.

The Denver Post reports Justin Hernandez was sentenced to spend 40 years in prison after his current 20-year term. A criminal complaint said Hernandez was the leader of a prison gang and allegedly ordered the beating.

Mark Rosalez was sentenced to serve 25 years after his current 10-year sentence.

Jose Augustin Pluma was sentenced to 35 years and Juan Martin Ruelas to 20 years. Their previous prison terms have ended.
