Mount Popocatepetl, a nearly 18,000-foot volcano in Mexico, is erupting.
Minor eruptions are not uncommon from the volcano, but earlier this week it began spewing ash and steam.
The volcano is little more than 50 miles southeast of Mexico City. BBC News reports several airlines, including US Airways, Delta, and United, have had to cancel flights from Mexico City. Destinations of those cancelled flights include Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Houston, and Dallas.
The BBC says Mount Popocatepetl has been spewing ash and lava since May, and that the current alert level associated with the volcano is just below evacuating nearby areas.
