MOSCOW (AP) - Miki Ando of Japan has won the gold at the figure skating world championships in Moscow, her second world title.
Olympic champion Kim Yu-na had gone into Saturday's free skate with a lead of less than half a point over Ando.
Both put on elegant free skates but neither was technically flawless. Ando stepped out of the first part of a planned double axel-triple toe combination. Kim singled both a double and a triple.
Carolina Kostner of Italy, who had started the day in sixth place, won the bronze.
Ando also won the 2007 world champion title.
The United States' Rachael Flatt, who lives and trains in Colorado Springs, placed 12th. Flatt skated, despite a stress fracture in her right leg.
