A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Friday and Friday evening for El Paso County, Teller County, and the Rampart Range. This includes Colorado Springs, Monument, Fountain, Manitou Springs, Woodland Park, Cripple Creek, the Waldo Canyon Burn Scar, and the Black Forest Burn Scar.
While some areas may not see any rain at all, some areas could see over an inch of rain in a very short period of time. That's especially true on the Palmer Divide and in the Rampart Range where an upslope breeze could enhance the threat for heavy rain and flash flooding.
Take the time to remember your flash flood plan, especially if you are in an area prone to flash flooding. This includes the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest burn scars.
Flash flooding can occur very quickly and can be deadly. Be weather aware throughout the day, and remember flood waters may not rise until after heavy rain ends. Flash flooding can occur in the canyons even if you do not see rain falling. Remember the rain could be falling in higher elevations away from where you see it.
