CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) - Five members of a Denver police lieutenant's family are recovering after a natural gas explosion leveled their home in Castle Rock.

Neighbors reported smelling gas Friday morning before the explosion, which also damaged two other houses.

Swedish Medical Center says Lt. Jimmy Martinez's wife, Lisa, and four children ages 4 to 11 whom the couple adopted from Ethiopia were on the second floor when the explosion occurred. The hospital says Lisa Martinez and the two girls and two boys are all in good condition.

Jimmy Martinez and the couple's 16-year-old son weren't home at the time, and four adult children in the family no longer live there.

Neighbor Kyle Albert tells The Denver Post the blast sounded like a plane crashed into a house.
