The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region executed a warrant and seized 5 horses Wednesday from two different parties sharing a property in Fountain. According to the Humane Society there are a total of 3 adult horses and 2 foals in poor condition.
Responding to a call from someone concerned about the horses, the Humane Society's animal welfare officers investigated and found the horses malnourished and neglected, with several noticeable wounds. Although the owner concluded that it was in the best interest of the horses to be signed over to the Humane Society, cruelty charges have been filed.
The horses are now at the Humane Society's stables, undergoing evaluation by a veterinarian, who will recommend the best course of treatment and their future needs. They are not currently available for adoption.
