Five Americans convicted in Pakistan

SARGODHA, Pakistan (AP) - A Pakistani court has convicted five young American men on terror charges and sentenced them each to 10 years in prison.
The five Muslims from the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., were arrested in December. Prosecutors say e-mail records and witness statements prove they had been plotting terror attacks in Pakistan and nations allied with it. The father of one of the men calls the verdict "a great disappointment" and insists they were in Pakistan to attend his son's wedding. He says they had planned to cross into Afghanistan, but to do humanitarian work.
A defense lawyer says they will appeal the verdict. The men could had faced a possible sentence of life in prison, but they were acquitted of three charges. Those included planning to wage war against the U.S. and Afghanistan.
