Fort Carson's Operations Center tells NewsFirst5 that they have had two fires burning down range in the training area of the reservation. Both Fires were basically in the same location. The First Fire Sparked up in Range 143 earlier in the week and had been 75% contained. A Second fire sparked up within the original burn area Friday and re-ignited an 85 acre area. That fire was dubbed the December Fire.

Crews from El Paso County Wild land, Colorado Springs FD, Security FD, Fountain FD and other departments in the county responded on a mutual aide call from the Fort Carson Fire Department due to high winds that threatened to push the fire beyond the outer fire lines.

As of 8 am this morning the December Fire has been 100% contained and the original fire which remains 75% contained and crews from Fort Carson's Juniper Valley and El Paso County Wild land are doing mop up operations as the fires seems to be burning itself out. All other responding agencies were released late Friday night.

Range 143 is near the edge of the Ft Carson Reservation and the Town of Midway. No Structures were threatened and no evacuations were ever needed. In all 85 acres burned.
