Firefighters monitoring Pueblo building, streets remain closed

PUEBLO--The Pueblo Fire Department is still on scene at 3rd street and Court street more than 12 hours after the massive structure broke out in downtown Pueblo.

Throughout the night, crews dealt with flare ups and hot spots.

As of 8:00 am, a crew is monitoring the area for additional flare ups as weather conditions change.

The intersection of 3rd Street and Court Street is closed off.

You are asked to avoid the area if possible.

Fire crews first responded to reports of smoke around 6:30 last night.

When they arrived on scene, they realized they needed help because it was a full blown blaze.

The Pueblo West Fire Department and Pueblo Rural Fire Department assisted, along with American Medical Response.

Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Shelton says no one was seriously injured. Some folks nearby were treated for smoke inhalation. One officer was taken to the hospital but he has been released and is okay.

They say the fire appears to have started in Office Systems Inc.  It then spread to Johnson's Sporting Goods next door setting off a considerable amount of ammo inside.  Shelton says six store fronts have been affected, 3 of those were vacant.

There will be a news conference at 10 a.m.
