A massive wildfire north of Los Angeles is 42 percent contained but fire officials say it still threatens about 5,000 homes.

The blaze in the Angeles National Forest grew slightly to 148,258 acres, or nearly 232 square miles. Higher humidity and a lack of wind helped fire crews, who will concentrate Friday on keeping its eastern end from moving down into foothill communities such as Altadena.

Los Angeles County fire Capt. Mark Whaling says 11 homes in a remote canyon area remain evacuated.

The 11-day-old blaze was caused by arson, burning 64 homes and killing two firefighters.
