The Fire Fighter Combat Challenge returns to the Air Force Academy Friday and Saturday at Falcon Stadium.
ESPN calls it, "The Toughest Two Minutes in Sports." It pits U.S. and Canadian fire departments against each other at more than 25 locations.
Wearing "full bunker gear" and breathing apparatus, pairs of competitors race head-to-head as they simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting. They perform a linked series of five tasks including climbing the 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.
The public is encouraged to come out and cheer for their favorite fire department beginning at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission and parking are free, but be prepared to show ID and the contents of your trunk.
