BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Volunteer firefighters have broken ground on a new station for the Fourmile Fire Department after it was destroyed by a wildfire.

Fourmile Fire Chief Bret Gibson tells KUSA-TV that the rebuilding project shows that the fire department is moving forward after such a catastrophic event. Construction is expected to take three months.

The Fourmile Canyon fire started on Labor Day and spread through the canyons west of Boulder, destroying at least 166 homes and causing an estimated $217 million in damage. It was one of the worst fires in Colorado history.

The fire department says it still needs donations to replace all the equipment lost in the fire.
