Fire restrictions: What they mean

Fire restrictions will go into effect in Colorado Springs Saturday morning, April 2, at 8:00 a.m.

Under these rules bonfires, prescribed burning, and recreational fires are not allowed.

Outdoor cooking is allowed on a propane or charcoal grill on private property and is also allowed on public lands in an established fire ring or permanent grate.

Model rockets can be launched only with a permit.  Blasting, welding and the outdoor use of torches is also allowed only by permit.

Smoking is allowed outdoors as long as the cigarettes are disposed of in a non-combustible container.

A careless fire that threatens or damages property is fourth degree arson and the person who started the fire may be prosecuted.  Parents are asked to keep track of their children's activities.

Everyone is urged to call 911 immediately when smoke or flames are spotted.
