MONUMENT - Members of the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Department were called to the post office when an automatic fire alarm sounded sometime after 7:30 p.m.
Lt. Ryan Graham of Tri-Lakes F.D. said when his crews arrived there was a visible haze in the building. They evacuated the postal employees who were still working and conducted a thorough search for the source of the smoke but were unable to track it down.
A company of firefighters will remained stationed outside the building overnight as a precaution. Graham doesn't believe the incident will prevent the post office from opening in the morning.
