Fire Escape Death Investigation Could Take Months to Complete

The investigation continues into the death of 41-year-old Pedro Arrazola, who fell from the fire escape at 115 E. Kiowa St. in Colorado Springs on Wednesday.

Authorities say it could be months before anything is known about what exactly happened to Arrazola.

Colorado Springs Fire Marshal Brett Lacey says the last time the building was inspected was in 2011. At that time everything seemed to be in working order. Lacey says
business owners are responsible for maintaining their fire escapes.

"The code section reads the fire escape has to be maintained in good working order and be free and clear of obstruction," says Lacey.

He says a general rule of thumb is that he doesn't touch things during inspections -- he usually observes and writes them up to be corrected by the business owner.

A call to the owner of 115 East Kiowa St. was not immediately returned.
