Increasing fire danger comes with our holiday weekend. For today, a Red Flag Warning has been posted for Fremont County. For Saturday, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for El Paso County, Teller County, Fremont County, Custer County, western Huerfano County, western Las Animas County, and for the Wet Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This means fires can easily grow out of control, and any outdoor burning this weekend should be put on hold.
A warm and dry downslope wind will dry the ground and the air across Southern Colorado today and also help to push the rain threat away from the I-25 corridor and well to the east toward the Kansas border. The storms in the Southeastern Plains will be in spots, and not everyone will see that rain, but if thunderstorms can develop they may become severe with damaging winds over 60 mph and 1" hail or larger being the main threats.
Temperatures will top out in the 80's and 90's today and through the weekend. We also expect to stay dry and breezy.
